AMAZON ‘SHIPS IN PRODUCT PACKAGING’

Two explainers introducing a new green initiative from Amazon to create less packaging

This is the explainer for consumers.

Blast were approached by Amazon to make these explainers…and they came to us. The initiative is to promote customers to choose their orders to be shipped in their own container rather than with extra Amazon packaging if possible, and for companies to start designing containers that are strong enough to be sent without the need for extra packaging. Because of the scale of Amazon, this can have a huge global impact.

The script existed in rough form, and we worked with the client to refine it and make it warmer and more compelling. Our approach came quite quickly. The Amazon package is so iconic, it seemed like using it as the hero object was a simple way of telling the story. The visual transition of a wall of boxes to a plethera of smaller packaging, thus revealing the messaging was a powerful way of communicating the overall message. Something everyone could understand and hopefully try and implement in a way that felt achievable for all. Initially we created the consumer version, but they then asked us to make a business focused version as well. We also translated it into 10 different languages. Blast provided the individual product packaging designs.

This is the business focused explainer. We chose a different base colour so there was clear differentiation between the two versions.

Here’s two of the many 3osec language versions that we made for use on social media to raise awareness

An animatic for the consumer version, which ended up being pretty close to the final animation
